a few words about the man<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f24ba6e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f24ba6e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Gaud\u00ed was born in Raus near Tarragona on June 25, 1852, to a family that knew severe tragedies &#8211; two of his brothers died in childhood, and a third brother, who was a doctor, died shortly after graduating. Nearby, his mother also died.<\/p>\n<p>As a child, he used to observe nature a lot. This was possible because he could not engage in sports due to health problems from which he suffered. This observation led him to notice that there are no straight lines in nature. This insight would later find expression in the buildings he designed.<br \/>\nHe not only designed the buildings but was also an active participant in the design, sculpture, and painting. Even when the buildings had straight lines, he refined them with curves and circles for the window frames, railings, and ceilings.<\/p>\n<p>Gaud\u00ed played a significant part in the development of modernista, Catalan modernism, the local version of art nouveau. This style, which was greatly influenced by nature, advocated the use of simple and natural materials and rounded lines, as in nature.<br \/>\nModernista developed in this area especially thanks to the collaboration between the various artists, architects, sculptors, and painters who worked at that time.<br \/>\nGaudi was an artist who left his mark on the city and even after almost a century of his death, he still intrigues many around the world.<\/p>\n<p>He was killed in 1926 in a car accident, when he was an infant.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div of a building more closely associated with Barcelona \u2014 or more impressive \u2014 than La Sagrada Familia.<\/p><p data-start=\"336\" data-end=\"706\">\u201cLa Sagrada Familia\u201d means \u201cThe Holy Family,\u201d referring to Jesus\u2019 close relatives. Construction of this basilica began in 1882 and, remarkably, it still isn\u2019t finished. That\u2019s right \u2014 it\u2019s not under renovation, it\u2019s still being built. The architecture is influenced by Modernisme, the local Art Nouveau movement that Gaud\u00ed belonged to, as well as by Gothic cathedrals.<\/p><p data-start=\"708\" data-end=\"854\">As with many of his projects, Gaud\u00ed didn\u2019t just design the building \u2014 he was deeply involved in every detail, including the sculptural elements.<\/p><p data-start=\"856\" data-end=\"1107\">The church has faced many challenges over the years. After Gaud\u00ed\u2019s tragic death in a traffic accident, architect Dom\u00e8nec Sugranyes took over the project. Later, during the Spanish Civil War, much of the structure was destroyed and had to be rebuilt.<\/p><p data-start=\"1109\" data-end=\"1235\">The original plan includes 18 towers, divided among three fa\u00e7ades representing the birth, death, and resurrection of Christ.<\/p><p data-start=\"1237\" data-end=\"1329\">Construction was paused during the COVID-19 pandemic, but has since resumed at full speed.<\/p><p data-start=\"1331\" data-end=\"1397\">In 2005, the building was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p><p data-start=\"1399\" data-end=\"1612\"><strong data-start=\"1399\" data-end=\"1430\">Visiting La Sagrada Familia<\/strong><br data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1433\" \/>You can admire the exterior for free. I recommend heading to the small park across the street \u2014 it\u2019s the best place to take photos (or selfies!) with the full basilica in frame.<\/p><p data-start=\"1614\" data-end=\"1676\">To designed for his patron Yousbi Goel (remember the name, it will appear later) above the El Carmel neighborhood which is part of Garcia. The one that looks like it&#8217;s part of some fairy tale.<\/p>\n<p>The plan was to build a luxury residential complex there overlooking the entire city (don&#8217;t miss the view from the balcony). It was intended for the wealthy of the city, at a distance from it (then it was not as developed as it is today). In the end, not all the planned units were built and the park was abandoned for many years.<br \/>\nThe iconic details are the lizard \/ dragon, the bench, the Doric columns under the balcony.<\/p>\n<p>Park Goel was also awarded the title of World Heritage Site in 2005. Hon.<\/p>\n<p>The visit to the park<\/p>\n<p>In a small part of the park you can walk around for free. To see the iconic details and enjoy the wide view of the city, I highly recommend purchasing a ticket and going inside. I really enjoyed it personally.<br \/>\nNot far from there &#8211; the Mediterranean Zizinia that will remind you a little of the food of Mil\u00e0 Pere Mil\u00e0 i Camps. The street in question is Passeig de Gracia.<\/p>\n<p>One of the distinguishing characteristics of the house is that it does not have a single straight line. If today it sounds like a complex engineering project, imagine how it was received back then.<\/p>\n<p>The whole structure is influenced by nature &#8211; the external shape that reminds of sea waves, the railings &#8211; climbing plants, the decorations are of shells, octopuses and that&#8217;s just a part.<\/p>\n<p>The construction of the building was not a simple project, both because disputes erupted with the landlady over the fees and because the building exceeded the planning and construction laws.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the city&#8217;s residents, who did not know how to &#8220;eat&#8221; this strange house, mockingly called it the quarry (&#8220;La Pedrera&#8221;), a nickname that has stuck with it to this day.<\/p>\n<p>Today the building is used for residences and offices and part of it is open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>This building also boasts the title of &#8220;World Heritage Site&#8221;, since 1984.<\/p>\n<p>Address -Pg. de Gr\u00e0cia, 92, 08008 Barcelona<\/p>\n<p>Opening Hours &#8211;<br \/>\nMonday to Sunday and holidays: 9:00 &#8211; 18:30.<br \/>\nNight visit: 21:00 -23:00 at night<\/p>\n<p>The visit to Casa Mila &#8211; the impression from the outside is quite limited. The entrance ticket also provides an audio guide.<\/p>\n<p>Where do you eat in the area?<\/p>\n<p>I recommended the Indian Swagatam Restaurant a long time ago in a post about vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurants, and although a lot of time has passed since then, my repeated visits there confirm this recommendation even today. Go there because of the food and despite the decor.
